Safeguarding Statement

We at Birchwood High School are committed to safeguarding and work together to ensure that our students thrive in a safe and supportive environment, whatever their age, ethnicity, religion, disability, sexual identity or gender. We expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All staff in the School are trained in Safeguarding and Child Protection issues and are kept up to date with changes in legislation and practice. We take any allegation and suspicion of abuse seriously and will respond to them promptly.

All staff recruited to the School undergo a rigorous safer recruitment process in line with the Statutory Guidance outlined by Keeping Children Safe in Education September 2023 and, as a consequence, all necessary background checks, for example, DBS are completed before staff begin employment.

Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies when there are concerns about a child’s welfare. We will ensure that our concerns about our students are discussed with his/her parents/carers first unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare.
