Christmas Wreath Making Workshops

Earlier in December, Wendy Gordon from Well Bean Gardening hosted two Christmas Wreath Making Workshops. Over the two evenings, 17 beautiful Christmas Wreaths were made. The PSFA would like to say a special ‘thank you’ to Wendy for her support.

Hairspray

Over fifty students took part in our colourful, toe tapping extravaganza of Hairspray. The show ran over four nights and all seats were sold out! With students as young as Year 8 managing the responsibility of lead roles, lead dancers and also as part of the backstage crew it was a celebration of talent at the highest order.
Jonathan Cowen starred as Edna, Tracy’s Mum complete with a fat suit and full face of make-up, this was a wonder to behold!  Dillon Browne was shining in his professional portrayal as Corny Collins. The lead role of Tracy was double cast due to the unbelievable quality of auditions and Sophie Springham and Evie James did not disappoint with a quirky, American sass that had the audience singing and laughing along. The Birchwood band displayed a level of professionalism second to none – their calm brilliance in their musical performance left the audience wondering if a backing track was playing! This was an exceptional performance by all members of the production and the audience said they felt it had been a privilege to witness. Thank you to everyone who helped to make the show possible.

Essex and Herts Air Ambulance

On the 28 November 2019, the House Captain team embarked on a journey to the air base in North Weald to meet up with our local charity; the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance. This is an amazing charity as they help so many local people with limited support from the Government. Local donations, including the £1,555.33 raised by Birchwood High School last year, is the only way they can fund this operation which saves countless lives.

Christmas Carols

Christmas has truly arrived with Birchwood’s Music department’s annual Carols by Candlelight Service that took place on Wednesday 18 December at St Michael’s Church.

Isabelle Ramsay sang a fabulous solo “Once in Royal David City” as well as beautiful choir arrangements for Vocalise, Senior Choir, and Year 9 and 10 singers filling the church with harmonious singing. The Reverend Williams lead the service with readings from Mr C Gilbank - Deputy Principal, Anya Seifert, Matthew Reader, Mrs P Fowell and Lauren Gore. Mince pies and mulled wine gave the evening a special Christmas spirit.

Special thanks goes to David Pickthall MBE, our organist for the evening and to St Michael’s Church for letting us host this event.
